Happiness

The most important thing to a parent/carer is the happiness of their children. Naturally, as parents/guardians, we tend to put their happiness before ours and although the is perfectly understandable, your happiness is important too. That is why for the new year, we have dedicated a whole blog on happiness. Here are some daily habits to becoming a happier person.

1) Smile
I know this probably sounds obvious but even fake smiling can help you feel happier. Studies have even concluded that smiling can improve our attention while also helping us perform better with cognitive tasks. You will also be making other people smile, as smiling is definitely contagious!

2) Exercise
We know that most people are too busy to go to the gym or go for a run but when we say exercise, we don’t mean for an hour but for a couple of minutes. 10 minutes of exercise is enough to get those endorphins running through your body. There are many videos online of short exercises that can easily be done at home and don’t need much equipment.

3) Sleep
Sleep gives our body time to recover and repair itself from the strains of everyday life. Having enough sleep is important for our productivity and energy levels. If you are having difficulties sleeping try keeping a routine so your body gets, use to preparing itself for sleep. Make sure the room you sleep in is cool and fresh. Open up windows to allow fresh air to circulate. If essential oils are your thing, use them! Warm baths or showers also help your body prepare for bedtime.

4) Helping other people
The feeling you get after helping someone and making their day better definitely makes you feel happier too. Studies have found that helping others and volunteering our time for a good cause can enrich our lives greatly. So, be the help someone needs 😊

5) Help yourself
Helping other people is very important and is a great value to model for your children but remember helping yourself and dedicating time to yourself is also important. Take a couple of minutes a day to relax and just think about all that the things you are grateful for. Meditate or do yoga if it helps relax you and become more mindful. Your happiness is a priority.  Happy new year!
