Kindness

Our children are the future. They are the next generation and a lot depends on them. Teaching your children kindness and care especially for those who have less in their life should be a priority. How can you as a parent encourage kindness?

Praise!
When they do something helpful around the house, especially when not asked, praise them! It’s also good to make them help out with minor chores and once completed be sure to praise them and let them know how much they helped you.

Read and watch!
Read books and watch shows/movies about empathy and kindness. This might sound strange but hear me out! Many children’s books or shows have life lessons behind them and watching or reading them with your child and explaining them will benefit your child greatly.

You are their role model!
Modeling the behaviour you want your children to have is important. It all starts at home! Using words like please and thank you, respecting everyone in the family, and being respectful to cashiers, waiters and receptionists are all little things but trust out they go a long way.

Volunteer!
Volunteering doesn’t have to be a big event; small things go a long way. Take your child to volunteer with you at an animal shelter or an old person’s home. You could also give some of your clothes to a charity and make your child pick out a few clothes for the less fortunate children or even toys for that matter. Explaining to them, that not all children are lucky enough to have toys or enough clothes will teach a valuable lesson.
