the beach

Summer is here and we are loving the heat (at times)! Summer means beach season and we wanted to dedicate a post on beach outings with little ones. Sometimes the thought of going to the beach with young children seems daunting due to the fact that you end up spending more time worrying about your children’s needs than enjoying the time there. Well, although we can’t completely remove the stress of beach trips, we want to make it easier. Here are some tips!

Firstly, sun block. The UV rays are strong even when it’s not that sunny. So don’t underestimate the damage that UV rays can do. So even if you are going to the beach around 6pm, still apply sun protection. You can get sunblock that is different colours which might be more appealing and fun for kids to put on.

The second thing we want to stress is WATER! Make sure you bring water with you that way you won’t have to worry about constantly going to kiosks to get water. If you have difficulty reminding yourself to take a sip of water there are apps specially designed for this purpose. They send you a small reminder when to take a sip of water to keep hydrated and make sure those little ones are drinking plenty too.

We also suggest taking some snacks for the trip. Finger food is idle for the beach. Prepare everything at home such as little sandwiches, cut up refreshing fruits, and maybe some crackers with some dips. Do not forget cutlery and napkins!

Making the beach trip a social event can also be a good way to enjoy it with your children. Invite your friends and if they have children even better. That way the kids can play together while you can have some adult conversation! Also having an extra pair of eyes to watch the little ones will take some of the stress off.  We also recommend going to beaches where lifeguards are present, they will be more vigilant to children in the water.
