Hobbies are such an important part of learning and development for children. Not only are hobbies a great way to have fun and pass time, but they also build up many other qualities. Hobbies can even be a starting point into your child’s future career as they decide to continue their passion for further education and finally make a career out of it. Hobbies help children build on their self-directed learning skills while also working on their confidence and sense of achievement.
So, how do you get your children interested in something enough to pick it up as their hobby? Children tend to do as they see so by finding your own hobby you could help them find theirs. Talking about what you love to do may spark their interest and they may decide to do something similar to your hobby. Another technique that can help find a new hobby for your kid is simply by doing different things such as visiting art museums, watching some sports on tv, taking them fishing, or painting with them. Try and note what piques their interest. Finally, talk to them! See if their friends have any after-school activities and see if they would like to do the same. They may feel more inclined to attend an extra curriculum activity if they already know they will have friends there. Ask them what they like to do and what they think is fun. By going over suggestions with them and seeing what they like or don’t like can really help you pinpoint which interests of theirs can be turned into a hobby.
