Couple holding hands on a romantic stroll.

As parents, it’s hard sometimes to find alone time with each other. After a long day of work and dealing with all the commitments that come with raising children, it’s hard to find some time where you and your partner can spend that much needed quality time together. The Date Night Opportunity Report (2011) found that having weekly date nights led to greater satisfaction in marriage, less incidence of divorce and overall better communication.

Date nights with your partner don’t need to be at some fancy restaurants where you spend loads of money to eat three fancy bites. Even staying at home and having a spa treatment date or playing board games with each other with a glass of wine is enough for both of you to have that quality time. You can even go on dates during the day if you find it hard to find sitters in the evening. Take advantage of the fact that your children are in school so you won’t have to find a sitter nor spend a lot of money on one. Go for a coffee and cake date or for a run with your partner.  It’s not about what you are doing, it’s about the time you dedicate to being with each other.

Do make the time for each other. Your life shouldn’t be on pause while you raise children. Dedicating no time to your relationship with your partner not only affects that relationship but also affects the relationship with your children. I am sure you wouldn’t want your children to view you and your partner as just people who live under the same roof but as a unity of two people who love each other and work as a team.
