Incorporating fruits and vegetables into kids’ meals can be quite a challenge when you have picky eaters as customers. Many parents struggle with cooking meals that the whole family will eat and end up cooking a separate meal for their children. Usually resorting to something simple that they know their children will eat such as plain pasta or chicken nuggets and chips. We have nothing against nuggets nor chips but this can’t be a meal that children have every day. So, we are going to give you some tips and tricks on how to sneakily add in those veggies and fruits.
Our first pro tip is smoothies 😊 We love smoothies and we are sure your children will love a nice cold refreshing smoothie especially in summer. Frozen fruits can be added to make a thicker almost sorbet-like smoothie which will cool down the little ones in the summertime while getting in those 5 a day fruit. There are so many recipes online, so find a recipe with a fruit your child loves and make it the main star of the show. The other fruit won’t even be tasted but they will still be getting the benefits of those vitamins and minerals.
Tip number 2 to increase those veggies is by either cutting them into very small pieces and adding them into a sauce or for extreme picky eaters just blend those veggies up into a smooth sauce. Adding carrots, zucchinis, aubergines or mushrooms to a tomato-based sauce and blending it will disguise all those veggies.
Another way to encourage children to eat more fruits and vegetables is to have fun with them. Get them involved in cooking and make a pizza face using different vegetables as facial features or make a design on a plate using fruit. This will make eating fruits and vegetables fun rather than a punishment.
