Ever have those days where you feel like no matter what you do, you haven’t done enough? Those days where you feel like you aren’t accomplishing enough and aren’t succeeding at the most important job that you have, which is being a parent/guardian! Those days where you feel other parents or guardians manage to do it all but you can’t. Maybe you are overwhelmed by work and feel completely drained or maybe you just can’t keep up with the amount of housework you have to do.
Please know that this feeling is totally normal and you are definitely not alone. The first thing to do is take a couple of minutes for yourself and give yourself a break. Don’t think of all the things you haven’t done right or up to your usual standards but all the things you’ve accomplished till now. You are raising another human being, cut yourself some slack! Another thing that really helps when you are not feeling at your best is talking to your friends who are also parents. Sharing stories and discussing your issues can really help get another perspective and you’ll probably find out that you aren’t alone. Just hearing about your friend’s issues and how they also sometimes have moments where they don’t feel adequate will make you feel better.
Tomorrow is a brand new day and make sure you leave all those negative feelings behind you. It is good to question your parenting style and remember that this is a learning journey and as with any journey, bumps in the road are to be expected. This doesn’t make you a bad parent, it makes you human!
