Life is becoming busier and busier. Being a parent/guardian means keeping up with work, your appointments, your child’s appointment, their schoolwork, housework, and cooking. Anything we forgot to add to the list? There are days as a parent where it feels you haven’t even had a minute to yourself. You need to practice self-care! So, what is self-care exactly?
Self-care is anything you do to improve your health whether it improves physical health or mental or emotional health. I am sure that if you broke your leg, you wouldn’t avoid seeking out help to feel better. So why neglect your general health? Dedicating time to self-care is crucial for your overall wellbeing and also to keep up with your responsibilities. Taking 15 minutes out of the day to sit down with a cup of tea and have a breather shouldn’t make you feel guilty. Making a to-do list can really help you prioritize what needs to be done in a day or week and might free up some of your time. Do make sure to schedule some quality time for yourself in your to-do list. Having everything written down in front of you can help you manage your time better and ticking off your tasks will feel satisfying.
Getting enough sleep is very important. Establishing bedtime routines for your child is the first step to sorting out your bedtime routine. Having enough sleep with ensuring that you have enough energy for the day ahead of you. Having a healthy and balanced diet will also help maintain high energy levels. Do not skip out on meals because you are too busy. Not having enough calories will make you feel tired and irritated.
Taking care of yourself is the first step to taking care of others.
