This pandemic has been hard on everyone and with more of us having been stuck indoors than ever before, our children have increasingly become bored and dependant on technology to keep their minds stimulated. Although this is okay in moderation, children still need to get physical exercise and have their environment changed up. With the easing of restrictions and summer beginning, we all need to get out of the house more. So, how can we get those little ones excited to go outdoors?
Firstly, do things as a family. Go for walks, bike rides, and runs. Try going into rural areas, that way you can be relaxed and don’t have to stress over the dangers of the road. Another idea that can be incorporated into a walk or bike ride is a picnic. Find an area where you can set up a blanket and bring some healthy snacks with you for everyone to munch on. The kids will love running around the area and seeing the wildlife. If you have a garden get your children involved in gardening. They will love seeing the plants grow and also if you have space to grow some herbs or veggies these can be used when cooking which is another activity that children would love to help out in. Gardens are also great areas to set up activities that might result in a mess as it’s an easy clean-up area plus the area can be used to play games where space is required. Lastly, try doing some sports outdoors with the whole family and maybe some friends. A game of beach volleyball or football will be exciting and get those little ones moving.
Please keep in mind all the government regulations and restrictions when considering your options. Always be safe and remember to social distance.
